The Long Walk - Richard Bachman

Ray Garraty/Peter McVries

I'd just love more fic about these doomed boys and their intense connection and impossible relationship. I will take any vaguely plausible excuse for a fix-it that allows them to get away from the Walk.

Walker uprising? Maybe there are more cracks in the Major's hold on the society and the military than we see? Weather emergency or act of war or well-timed zombie apocalypse allow the boys to escape? I would love to read about them on the run or holed up in some rat-trap hotel, tending to each other’s injuries, trying to tend to each other but lacking the skills or strength to help, huddling for warmth. Basically anything that explores how they might relate to each other outside of the intense certain-death-for-at-least-one-of-them circumstances their bond formed in. What might their friendship or a burgeoning romantic relationship look like with them actually able to survive together? If Pete really thought he was going to die and expected it and then survived after all, how would he deal with it? Feel free to take things in a literal Canadian Shack direction, since escaping dystopian America across the border seems like as good a way as any to get out of this totalitarian death trap.

I'd also be interested in anything dealing with Ray's internalized homophobia and his issues around what happened with the neighbor boy all those years back: I'm fine with either framing the encounter with the neighbor boy as something he really didn't want, and which confuses his feelings about McVries all the more, or something he maybe did want, but has since convinced himself he didn't want out of internalized homophobia.

I'd also be interested in any kind of post-canon supernatural scenarios: McVries is a ghost, or Comes Back Wrong, and there's undead hurt/comfort and longing for what might have been?

The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Andy Dufresne/Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding

I just really want to read about these two building a life together in a sleepy fishing village in Mexico.

Slow-burn romance, snapshots of their life over the years, shameless smut, I’d just really love to explore how they might slowly and tentatively develop a romantic relationship.  Give me all the angst, the emotionally-guarded mutual pining, the awkward fumbling attempts at making a move, and eventual happiness. I’m presuming Andy has never consensually been with a man before, and while Red may have, I think it’s safe to assume he probably hasn’t had a normal romantic relationship with anyone in a long time, if ever. How do they navigate this while adjusting to life on the outside?

I’d also be fine if you wanted to explore the prison rape in more depth too. We don’t directly see much of how Andy is affected by that experience, and I would be fine if you wanted to take things in a darker direction and explore how trying to navigate a consensual relationship with a man brings up a lot of unpleasant associations. “Resilient and stoic person gets smacked in the face by trauma they thought they’d successfully mastered” is a Thing for me, so I’d be more than fine if you want to go there, though I'd prefer a happy ending for this fandom.

Aside from directly shippy stuff, I’d love to see more vignettes of how Red adjust to life in Zihuatenejo, as well as a bit more information about his life before prison. Does he become Andy's man who knows how to get things, or does he carve out a new niche for himself? He’s been in prison since the 1920s; I’d love to see him exploring how the world’s changed and getting a chance to experience all the things he's missed out on.

Carrie - Stephen King
Sue Snell/Carrie White

I love what a mess these two are, and the darker possibilities of this ship, with the hint of a redemptive connection for both of them. The push/pull impulses of empathy and cruelty Sue has towards Carrie, her teenage cringe fascination with the flaws of Carrie's body giving way to pure fascination. The violation of Carrie reading Sue's mind at the end being used for dubcon-flavored intrigue, or weird, intensely vulnerable trust-play. Anything exploring Sue's fear of becoming just another asshole suburbanite and the tragic dimensions of Carrie's relationship with her mother.

Crossover Fandom
Ray Garraty/Peter McVries & The Stand

I don't even have specific ideas for this one, but I want every possible take on this scenario. The slow spread of Captain Trips through the crowd, the government's attempts at a cover-up, AU with Randall Flagg as the Major, Ray and Pete on the run through a post-apocalyptic America, meeting up with other unsavory survivors. (Feel free to throw in any actual characters from The Stand.)

The Losers Club & The Long Walk

I'm so curious about what circumstances would makes the Losers decide to go on the Walk in an AU where they live in a dystopian future and only meet on the Walk (including Bev, presumably. Maybe she's in disguise?) What drove them to this? What brings them together? I'd love to see them forming an unlikely and hopeless connection between each other, whether or not the power of friendship can save them this time.
